Measuring windows correctly

- Measure the glass area (A): The width and height of the visible glass area of the window sash.
- Measure the frame (B): The width and height up to the outer edge of the frame where you want to stick the hook-and-loop tape.
- Choose the size: Choose a film size that is between A and B. The hook-and-loop tape is glued all around the frame, and the film completely covers the glass.
Tips: Always state dimensions as width × height in cm. Measure each window sash separately – the film is also available for different windows in one order. The adhesive strip sticks best to a clean, dry, and grease-free frame.

The problem
Old windows are heat leaks
A lot of heating heat is lost through old windows. Single glazing lets out around twice as much heat per square metre as old insulating glass – and a good five times as much as modern heat-resistant glazing. Drafts through leaky seals add to this.
Heat loss per m² of window per year, converted into heating oil:
- Single glazing: approx. 43 litres
- Old insulating glass (1975–1994): approx. 22 litres
- Modern heat-resistant glazing: approx. 9 litres
Source: Institute for Housing and the Environment (IWU).
The solution
An air cushion as an additional insulation layer
The insulating film is attached all around the window frame using hook-and-loop tape. A still layer of air is created between the glass and the film – exactly the principle that also provides insulation in double glazing. Heat stays in the room longer, and cold air from drafty seams no longer gets through.
New windows can quickly cost several hundred euros each and require a tradesman. You can install the film yourself in just a few minutes – and take it down again in the spring.
Your benefits at a glance
More warmth, lower heating costs – in just a few simple steps.
Your savings
This is what the film achieves
We recalculated for a standard window measuring 100 × 120 cm—once with single glazing and once with old insulating glass. We also included two examples for an entire apartment:
Sample calculation per winter
Gas price €0.12/kWh, heat losses according to IWU. Assumption: The film halves the heat loss in single-pane windows and reduces it by approx. 30% in old double-pane windows.
It pays off
Often already paid for in the first winter
For single-glazed windows, the film often pays for itself in the first winter alone – especially if you equip several windows and take advantage of a volume discount: in the example provided, 8 films cost around €244 and save around €250 per winter. A single window pays for itself after about 1.5 winters, and after about 3–5 winters with old double glazing. If energy prices rise, the payback period will be even shorter. And because you can reapply the film every year, you will continue to save winter after winter.
This calculation does not include draughts: with leaky windows, the savings can be significantly higher – and it feels warmer immediately, so you are more likely to turn down the thermostat. Rule of thumb: every degree lower saves around 6% in heating energy.
All figures are based on example calculations. Actual savings depend on the window, heating system, energy prices and usage.
Insulation film or new windows?
New windows are the permanent solution – but expensive and time-consuming. Insulating film is the quick, affordable way to reduce heat loss, especially for rented apartments and older homes.

Assembly
Attached in 3 steps
Stick the hook-and-loop tape onto the clean frame, press the film down all around by its edges – done. No tools, no hairdryer, no scissors needed.
Draft
No more cold drafts
With drafty windows, you often feel a chill at the sofa or desk. The film seals the window all around, keeping the cold air outside.
Material
Clear visibility, durable EVA
The thick, transparent EVA film lets in daylight and is flexible and tear-resistant.
Border colors
White or Black
The edge of the film is available in white for light-colored plastic windows or in black for dark frames.
Sustainable
Every winter again
Remove in spring, fold up compactly, and reattach in autumn.
At the window
This is what the film looks like in the apartment
Left with insulating film, right without: The film sits flat on the window sash, with the edge resting on the frame. The view remains, but the cold stays outside.
Tip: Attach the Velcro tape to the window sash – this way, the window can still be opened.
Find Size
How to measure correctly
- Measure the glass area (A): Width and height of the visible glass area.
- Measure the frame (B): Width and height up to the outer edge of the frame where the hook-and-loop tape will be attached.
- Select the size: Choose the width and height of the film between A and B.
Available sizes (width → height):
15 cm → 15 cm
50 cm → 50, 80, 100, 120 cm
60 cm → 60, 80, 100, 110, 120, 130 cm
80 cm → 80, 100, 120, 130 cm
100 cm → 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150 cm
100 × 120 cm is preselected – a common standard size for windows in Germany. Measure each window individually: Using the quantity selector above, you can choose a separate size for each film.
Energy-saving set: Sealed windows, direct warmth
The foil retains heat in the room – a heated blanket brings it directly to you. Together with an insulating foil, you get the heated underblanket or the USB heated blanket 15% cheaper. The discount is automatically deducted in the shopping cart.
More Comfort
Pleasantly warm, even right by the window
Without cold air by the window, the area by the window becomes cozy again – for reading, working, or drinking coffee. And because the room feels warmer, the thermostat can be turned down a notch.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Which size do I need?
Measure the visible glass area (A) and the outside edge of the frame (B) and choose a film size between A and B. You can find the exact instructions above in the section "How to measure correctly".
How is the film attached?
Using the included self-adhesive hook-and-loop tape: stick the tape all around the frame, then press the film down firmly along its edges. You do not need any tools or a hairdryer.
Can I still open the window?
Yes, if you attach the hook-and-loop tape to the window sash – the film will move with it. For airing out with the window open in the top position, you can also briefly loosen the film at one corner.
Can you still see through the window?
Yes. The film is transparent and lets in daylight. Depending on the angle of the light, slight reflections are visible.
How much can I save?
In the example (window 100 × 120 cm, gas €0.12/kWh), this amounts to around €31 per winter with single glazing and around €10 with old double glazing. With drafty windows, it could be more due to reduced drafts. The actual savings depend on the window, heating system, and usage.
Can I reuse the film?
Yes. Remove the film in spring, fold it dry, and reattach it in autumn.
Is there a discount for multiple windows?
Yes: 10% off from 2 sheets, 20% off from 3 sheets, and 30% off from 4 sheets. You can mix and match sizes and colors freely – the discount is automatically deducted in the shopping cart.
How much is shipping?
Shipping to Germany and Austria is free. You have a 14-day right of withdrawal – see Returns & Refunds.
